Gefen Adapter Gives HD Access Through USB Port
1/4/2008
A new USB to DVI Graphics Adapter from Gefen offers a handy way to connect additional displays to all Windows XP and Vista operating systems available today, and now for Mac OS X as well.
This tiny adapter allows a plug and play connection of a DVI or VGA display to any USB 2.0 port so you can add digital video displays or projectors to your laptop and personal computer for simultaneous video delivery without needing a DVI port. Output video is delivered in the DVI-I format, allowing for either VGA or DVI display compatibility.
The Gefen USB to DVI Graphics Adapter enables users to tweak their video performance, offering a variety of screen resolutions up to 1600x1200. These built-in features ensure video performance is of a similar quality as the main display connected through the DVI port.
Users also have the option of having the USB connected display mirror the main display or extend the desktop to provide increased visibility and the ability to view several applications at the same time in a multiple display situation. Testing has shown that up to six USB to DVI Graphics Adapters can be connected to any one personal computer with a reliable delivery of video to all six displays.
Details and complete specifications are available here: > EXT-USB-2-DVI

60 AJA FS1 Converters used for Live Broadcasts
18/3/2008
Leading provider of outsourced teleproduction services, NEP Visions, taps AJA FS1 for Super Bowl, NASCAR and NBA broadcasts. The FS1 is the universal HD and SD, audio and video frame synchronizer and converter from AJA, and NEP is a leading provider of live event teleproduction services.
"As an outsourced service provider, it's important for us to purchase assets that get used a lot," explained George Hoover, CTO, NEP. "What's great about the FS1 is that one week it could be an up-converter, the next week it could be a down-converter and the following week we might use a few units to embed audio. So instead of buying a $50K box that might get used once or twice a year to handle one of these tasks, I now have a reasonably priced box that is highly adaptable for a variety of uses."
NEP first came across the AJA FS1 when they were looking for a solution to help the company take live program feeds at the Super Bowl from 720p to 1080i in real-time for transmission to multiple international networks. After testing one of the units, Hoover realized it was an ideal solution for addressing many of the on-the-fly video and audio demands that mobile truck engineers are faced with when covering live broadcast events.
"We just took 40 of our FS1s out to the Super Bowl to facilitate real time video format conversions for the international broadcast feed, and we'll also be putting them to use at the Hollywood Award Shows and for NASCAR racing," said Hoover. "Our engineers look at the FS1 as the video equivalent of a Swiss army knife. It's just a very powerful, multi-purpose and cost effective tool to have in your arsenal."
NEP was also drawn to the fact that the FS1 is a freestanding unit. The devices can be used alone, bundled together or grouped in towers, and they're very easy to operate and move around. "With some card-based solutions, if you don't invest in all of the remote devices, they aren't that user friendly. There's nothing special required to operate FS1, it's very easy to use and integrate on the fly," concluded Hoover.
Joseph Electronics, based in Illinois and California, introduced NEP to the AJA FS1 and has been a valued business partner of AJA's for more than 10 years. "AJA has always delivered very reliable products and over the past decade we have provided hundreds of our clients nationwide with a broad variety of AJA solutions into the mobile production truck and high end broadcast markets. The FS1 is yet another unit from AJA that packs a lot of punch and electronic capability into a very reasonably priced package," commented Yohay Hahamy, Senior VP and Owner of Joseph Electronics.

Component Distribution and Extension Solutions
14/3/2008
The 1:4 Component/Audio CAT-5 Distribution Amplifier and the 1:8 Component/Audio CAT-5 Distribution Amplifier both enable the delivery of component video to multiple displays. Each solution is equipped with RCA (left/right) analogue and digital (S/PDIF and TOSlink) audio inputs, offering an easy method of sending both audio and video to four or eight remote locations from a single source.
The 1:4 Component/Audio CAT-5 Distribution Amplifier transmits four component video signals with high definition resolutions to 1080p up to 1000 feet in distance. Audio is delivered alongside the video in both analog and digital formats. The amp is equipped with four RJ-45 outputs, which provide a link to four receiver units that can be placed up to 1000 feet from the source using CAT-5 cables.
The 1:8 Component/Audio CAT-5 Distribution Amplifier operates with the same functionality and features but with a distribution to eight displays. Audio and video are delivered to their remote destinations over just one CAT-5 cable making this a useful and cost-effective method of delivering high definition audio and video throughout multi-room locations.
Both systems come with power supplies, component and audio cables and the sender/distribution amplifier. Receivers are sold separately so customers can tailor the amount of receivers required.

Pixelmetrix Wins Further At SES ASTRA
15/12/2003
SES ASTRA chooses integrated solution by
Pixelmetrix and Barco for its Network Operations
Center
Pixelmetrix and Barco Control Rooms join forces to provide a state-of-the-art total monitoring system for SES ASTRA’s ground control facility in Betzdorf, Luxembourg.
The seamless integration of Pixelmetrix’s award-winning monitoring solution, DVStation™, and Barco’s high
quality control room display, iStudio, provides unparalleled information on overall
broadcast quality and won the approval of SES ASTRA.
SES ASTRA, Europe’s leading direct-to-home satellite system, demonstrates full
satisfaction with Pixelmetrix by choosing Pixelmetrix again.
The DVStations currently installed in their Digital Network Operation Centre are in charge of continuously and
automatically monitoring the signal transmission quality of all the downlink signals from
the entire ASTRA fleet of thirteen satellites.
The system, internally called ASTRA D-AAS
III (Digital Automatic Analysis System, Generation 3), consists of multiple DVStations
fitted with multiple QPSK analyzer cards and a comprehensive remote control software
system developed in-house.
Their confidence and trust in Pixelmetrix’s solutions is shown again by appointing Barco
and Pixelmetrix to provide an integrated monitoring system.
DVStation, Pixelmetrix’s flagship product, is an award-winning multi-port, multi-layer
system. It is a unique system that, through a set of plug-in modules and a powerful
processing architecture, can simultaneously monitor the global health of a network.
The combination of Barco’s iStudio and Pixelmetrix’s DVStation provides customers with
flexible, scalable and high-performance solutions critical to the rapid and fast-moving
digital environment.
At SES ASTRA, Barco installed the OverView cDR67-DL displays in a 7 by 2 configuration
controlled by 14 Hydra Compact graphic controllers enabling them to display over 250
sources in its control room. The iStudio software acts as a single point of control and
includes advanced warning capabilities.
Pixelmetrix’s DVStation monitoring functionality
with real-time fault detection and alerts was integrated with iStudio. This allows
problems and alarms detected by the DVStation to be collected and displayed on a single
monitor wall. In addition, with a single click on the iStudio GUI, operators can access
DVStation information on their workstation to interact with the information displayed
on the display wall.
For SES ASTRA’s operators, this means significantly higher value and higher performance
thanks to advanced interactivity and real-time visualization.
The integrated networkbased
solution enhances SES ASTRA’s control center operational efficiency because it
provides a large overview display of both satellite communication content and alerts
detected by DVStation, allowing collaborative actions across multiple operators.
Both Barco and Pixelmetrix, experts in their respective fields, bring to the table an
unmatchable strength. This strong collaboration will provide an impressive solution for
the digital broadcast market, bringing network monitoring into a new realm.
About DVStation Products
DVStation, DVStation-Remote, DVStation-Pod, and DVStation-IP by Pixelmetrix are
award-winning systems for monitoring the quality and performance of digital
networks. DVStation is the only all-in-one solution that can monitor a signal path
from studio to home. The operator sets the monitoring thresholds and alert
methods for the entire network from a single location.
DVStation will notify
operators if there's trouble, with alerts delivered remotely over a corporate LAN,
the Internet or even to a pager. If signal and content integrity is essential for
business success, DVStation is the most advanced Preventive Monitoring solution
available today.

DVI with new HDCP (Copy Protection Compliant) extenders, switchers and matrix products
KVM extenders (200 metres) and switches with new high-resolutions (1920 x 1200) that combine options of USB (100 metres), and/or two way stereo audio, RS-232, as well as P/S2.
Hagai Gefen, president of Gefen, Inc. summarises:
"Our years of R&D efforts in DVI, USB and KVM solutions are maximised by our relationship with the Digi-Box team. Most present and future medical, A/V and IT installations are now at the higher resolutions that we have catered to for the past 10 years in the pro video and audio fields. We needed a highly experienced and dedicated distributor who could reach into all these markets. Digi-Box's expertise fulfils our requirements."

"The Gefen product lines allow the new high resolution tools of the audio/video industry to work together.
