“The compact size and simplicity of the ADDERLink™ XDIP is what first attracted us to the solution. When we used it for the ground-breaking virtual reality and projection mapping in 'Jeff Wayne’s The War of the Worlds' the XDIP's extension capability, reliability and real-time remote-control functionality was critical. Now, with the expansion of network capability and the introduction of the API, we can build even larger networks”, commented Salvador Bettencourt-Avila, Technical Designer and Programmer at Mesmer.
When a new interactive VR theatre production in the City of London was proposed, Mesmer’s skills and expertise were called upon. The show brings HG Well’s timeless novel “The War of the World’s” to life with a unique and spectacular Layered Reality™ experience. Using live actors, cutting-edge VR technology, augmented reality and holograms, visitors are guided through 25 themed areas of an immersive walk around theatre set. During the experience, the audience enter four different VR rooms, each with 12 headsets running VR software. Each VR headset computer, along with five media servers, two sound servers and two lighting desks, must be controlled remotely from a separate control room in order to minimize physical access for troubleshooting and maintenance throughout the production. Mesmer identified that the management of several remote sources, via one workstation, without any loss of quality required a flexible and scalable high performance IP KVM solution.
