30+ streams of 4K video. Motion tracking. Green screen. Effects on effects.
VFX artist Peter Quinn threw everything he had at one of the heaviest After Effects projects imaginable.
Only one drive could keep up: iodyne Pro Data.
VFX artist Peter Quinn, renowned for his surreal shorts and collaborations with Snoop Dogg, Will Smith, and more, pushed his creative process to the limit with a mega-heavy 20-second After Effects composition featuring 30+ streams of 4K video, green-screen elements, motion tracking, and complex layering. Against multiple drives, only the iodyne Pro Data powerhouse managed to preview the project in 2 minutes and 22 seconds, compared to 4+ minutes on other drives cutting render time by over 50%. This experiment shows that when every frame matters, Pro Data delivers sustained 5 GB/s performance to keep creators in flow and project bottlenecks at bay.
Putting Pro Data to the Test: A Real-World Speed Experiment
To put iodyne Pro Data through its paces, Peter created one of his most complex compositions yet: a 20-second short film packed with green screen layers, fake shadows, motion tracking, and over 30 streams of 4K footage. With multiple assets feeding into After Effects simultaneously, the project pushed the limits of drive performance—exactly the kind of scenario where traditional external storage starts to lag.
In a side-by-side render test, Peter previewed the same After Effects timeline across several drives. A commonly used portable drive took nearly five minutes to complete the preview, while a larger Thunderbolt-based SSD shaved off just under a minute. Even his previously fastest drive clocked in at four minutes. But iodyne Pro Data delivered the preview in two minutes and 22 seconds cutting render time by half.
