Recorded live at BSC Expo 2025, this short colour science seminar with AJA Technical Director Andy Bellamy looks at how ColorBox can be the hub of any colour-managed workflow. Andy discusses the complexity of the modern colour workflow including multiple types of HDR deliverables, and presents the AJA ColorBox as a compelling real-time hardware colour management solution.
ColorBox from AJA is a high performance colour management device specifically designed to meet the colour conversion and colour correction needs of broadcast, live events, and on-set applications. Supporting HDR, SDR, and Wide Color Gamut (WCG) signals, it utilises 12G-SDI for single wire 4K/UltraHD up to 4:2:2 10-bit 60p or 4:4:4 12-bit 30p, with a unique colour processing pipeline, and down-conversion. The ColorBox’s ultra-low latency, less than ½ of a video line, makes it ideal for colour managed workflows for live productions.
Built around a 33-point 3D LUT processor with tetrahedral interpolation, the AJA Color Pipeline provides additional 4x 1D LUTs and 2x 3x3 matrices that are each individually configurable or can be converted to Proc Amps or RGB Color Correctors. All of the colour processing options can be easily managed via the web user interface, which can be accessed directly from a wired Ethernet connection.
ColorBox colour management and conversion toolset, with its intuitive web UI is also available in an openGear form factor. OG-ColorBox delivers ultra-low latency, high-density 4K/UltraHD high dynamic range (HDR) wide colour gamut (WCG) video processing, extensive HDR/WCG conversion options, colour correction, and custom look up table (LUT) processing for live production, sports, and much more. Its powerful feature set gives professionals the confidence to meet nearly any live production colour needs, from colour correcting speciality cameras to processing camera Log and transforming SDR to/from HDR in real-time, and more.
